Academic Writing

TASK 1A

This Bar-chart analyses how education is taken up in future, by men and women, during three periods, i.e. 1970/71, 1980/81 and 1990/91. The data is segmented for students doing part-time and full-time education.

Males recorded the highest in 1970s at 1000,000 whilst it came down to 900,000 in 1990s in part-time education, whilst Females recorded the highest in 1990s at 1100,000 and the least in 1970s at 700,000. The increasing trend of part-time education can be observed amongst female population.

It can be established that there is an increasing rate of full-time education in both men and women in these three decades.  It started off at 100,000 and 50,000 respectively for men and women in 1970s and reached 200,000 by 1990s for both genders.

The staggering increase of educational awareness in Britain, is evident from this chart.

Statement of Purpose

I am Kanthi Vadlamani. I am 25 years old and I have a Masters in Computer Sciences from India. I took up sciences in my early age and chose Engineering. I have done my Bachelors of Engineering in Computer Science from an affiliated college of JNTU in Computer Sciences. I have always been a technical buff but I was introduced to the sweetness of English Language when I was young.
Now I am working in Melbourne as a Business Process Consultant in Transportation & Logistics industry for an elite customer.  I had no traditional training when it comes to usage of English Language and now I can understand from my experience in my day to day hustle that it’s a herculean task for me to communicate exactly what’s on my mind.
I see few English men who can express splendidly. They give twists and turns and make me wonder for a second what they are talking about and the very next second they come to the point where the idea is revealed and it leaves me awestruck. I always wonder how they do what they do and I figured that getting trained in a world class College like London School of Journalism is a start and I can make good use of this course.
In my opinion I don’t feel complete, as I can’t express my thoughts beautifully and in a well-constructed manner.

There is also another factor that drives me to take up this course on Journalism.  I always had a passion to stay on tab with the current affairs, where I first started off reading a newspaper. It started with the childish Cartoons , sports and the lifestyle sections of the Indian Newspapers like Times of India and The Hindu. One fine day I stumbled into the editorial section and after reading this one article by M J  Akbar on the Indian Society I was spell-bounded at the brilliance and intelligence and the spectacular way in which it’s presented.

Rod Laver Arena - A Truly memorable day

The factual report that I chose is a special performance and it’s the Tennis Grand Slam Australian open 2014 in Rod Laver Arena.

It was the 26th of Jan 2014 and it was Australian republic day and more importantly it was the Men’s final of the Grand slam of Asia Pacific “The Australian Open”. My friends and I took a ground pass into Rod laver for both men’s final. Stan Wawrinka from Switzerland won his maiden finals in a Grand slam. It wasn’t easy route to the finals for him. He defeated Djokovic in the Quarterfinals in an epic 5 set match lasting for 3 hrs. The other guy who bagged a place in the finals is Rafael Nadal after beating Rodger Federer in the Semi-finals. Considering the epic rivalry between the both, it was not as enticing as expected. Federer was way under expectation. But in the final it’s a whole new story. The first set was a tough fight but Stan’s backhand was significantly precise which stood as a clear win over Rafa. In Jim Courier’s opinion he reckons Stan’s backhand is the best he has ever seen in his career. And unfortunately at the end of second set Rafa was injured badly in the back and had to fight hard to succumb the pain. He took a time out to pop in some pills and he called for a physio too. It was a little amateur at that time that Stan had a discussion with the chair umpire asking about Rafa’s situation. The commentators even went out to say “Melodrama”. After that the medicines must have kicked in and Rafa won the third set. But at the end it was clear that Rafa was not Rafa and he gave a decent fight and not letting go till the end. Stan won his first Grand slam title ever in his ten year career.

Birbal the Clever

Story 1:

One morning, Akbar's grandson asks him to bend down as he points out there's something foreign on his face. He plucks out a black hair out of Akbar's mustache and laughs out loud for the prank he pulled on the King.  Amused, Akbar hugs his grandson and gets started to visit his durbar for the morning.

While walking to the durbar, he thinks of posing a tricky question to his courtiers to baffle them, Birbal included.

After sitting on his Royal throne, he explains the situation he had in the morning and asks what kind of a punishment should the culprit deserve?
                            OR
He asks what kind of a punishment should a person who pulled a hair out of his mustache deserve?

In response, all his ministers came up with various responses suggesting the person get flogged, imprisoned or hanged. Observing that Birbal is still quiet, Akbar asked him what according to him that person deserved? Hesitantly, Birbal denies to respond as he thinks its inappropriate to voice his thoughts in the court. Akbar insists Birbal to speak ut and he suggests that the person should be gifted with hundreds of kisses.
Surprised at the suggestion, Akbar smiling, ask Birbal to explain himself to the court. Birbal explains that the only person who can pull out a hair is a child & that implies its his grandson.

Once again Birbal's cleverness is exhibited to the courtiers

Battle of War

At the moment i am so confused and uncommited with what i work as i dont have the drive to do anything.

I feel i have an interstet to do a lot of things and for some reason i just dont have the drive to do anything

Its been 2 years since i came to australia come this July and no customers since Linfox, which ended on March 30

I am nervous that i don't have the drive to do anything, as all i do in a day (atleast for the past 4 days) is get up at 8 and take english class, take up oracle , goto gym and watch tv series and study english here and there.

Am i tensed that i dont have a job since wednesday last week? Yes I am
But do i have enough of it that drives me to do something great and extraordinary? No

I think its a herculean effort to stay focused and have a feeling that you want to acheive something even when you are in your 60s, when i think of Taavu

But yet again its not hopeless like i was when i started off in Australia and without mom and taavu next to me where i was demotivated and all i did was goto work, eat, sleep and workout, which literally felt made me feel like I am an animal

when it comes to who i am and what i can actually do and do it in a topnotch class, which is working out. I dont think i have been doing that a fair deal because 2 years ago i was at 105 and now i am at 95. Which means that in the past 2 years with lots of ups and downs i have finally reduced only 10 kgs in 2 years.

All people think that, and also from the way i talk get a sense that i am workout freak, but in reality thats not true. I am not committed to it for a lifetime, just like i am commited to eating everyday for a lifetime.
I promise myself that i

Also sometimes when i underform in my head, which i do most of the time, I feel that i have to stop watching movies cause i do a lot. The problem in anything i do is i cant stop myself when i start it and regret it later.

Eg: Watching TV series the whole night and not get up in the next morning and regret not going to workout

Starting off eating cakes as a sample,  and then cant stop myself because i am addicted to them. Oh yes, I do admit now at 26 years 10 months 10 days that i have a sweet tooth. Not just a sweet tooth. but i am addicted to sweets

Although somethings that i am really certain and strong about include. I do have a big list, but i have just goto prioritize them

1. Learn a language (Malayalam at the moment .. Thanks to DQ Salmaan. To be honest why i picked malayalam is not because of DQ, cause thats so superficial. If you ask me tahts because i need a reason to pick something up and start getting busy with it, cause otherwise i am so not

2. Build a nice amazing great website. Thats a lot of adjectives

3. Build lots of mobile apps in the area of GK, Event Management Mobile App, Games etc

4. Revise Java Concepts and practise on them

5. Learn english grammar, vocabulary and idioms

6. Give a english language test like GRE or IELTS to get confidence for the level of english i have and also a chance to improve my english, cause to be honest i am not great at it. I don't want to have that level of english most typical indians would have. I want to be a shashi tharor, Steve Jobs or a rabindranath Tagore

7. Attempt for Freelance Journalism . Still not sure in which area. Have to explore the options i have first

8. I want to sing classical music again and also write the songs that taavu taught us in the book and by-heart them and be ready to sing them when with Taavu

9. I want to be able to work out everyday for 1 and half hours. Period. EVERDAY. Not 2 hours but 1 and half hours.

Great ocean Drive and 12 apostles with Bernd Dittritch

After moving to melbourne we did some couple of good trips to Gold Coast and today we did the most anticipated and quite famous "Great Ocean Drive". Some gave a big "haveto go" nods while quite a few gave a "hmmmm.. not so great" nods but overall its a experience that has to be done, so that we can give a "been there done that" look.

Its been 7 months and exactly on the 1st day after that date I had the privelege to go with Bernd Dittrich. Being in the small developing world of TM and also the having a passionate SAP resource inhouse sure does have peaks :)

My brother has been friends with Bernd for a very long time and Linfox has called them for a development assistance to kick-off the most crucial project going live in April.

Ram hired a car the previous night and planned to start for the drive the next morning at 10 AM. But as anticipated we had a quick TM talk  for about just 3 hours about the new designs going to be implemented for a new Rail company and the problems Bernd was solving when he was down at our work in that week. I am stopping myself into getting into the details now, cause non-TM readers, I dont want to bore you guys :P

So we gotup at 10AM and I went for a quick swim and were all set by 11AM. By that time Ram picked Bernd from his hotel which is couple of blocks away from our place. So we had a nice breakfast in this cafe on our way to appolo bay.

It was a close to 300 km drive from Dorcas street , melbourne to port campbell.

We were told that the drive to 12 apostles would take us 4 hrs to 4 and half hours but in the morning Ram told us that its just 2 hrs 40 mins (google maps). Turns out Ram keyed in the wrong place. As apollo bay is just a stop on the way to port campbell which is where the 12 apostles are actually located. Anyways the drive wasnt that bad.  It was a nice relaxing comfy (good leg spaced car) ride.

The best part of sitting in the back seat is you can sleep whenever you want to and look around when you feel like. I would say its a perfect holiday for the weekend. With the right music on i would say its AWESOmEE :D

So we stopped at 12:30 PM for breakfast at this cafe and it had garden at the backyard with lots of plants for sale. We actually thought of buying some but personally maintaining the house and taking care of me is such a huge job in itself and another plant in the house is like a baby. As much as i wanted to buy strawberry and tomato plants and some decorative plants I wasn't sure if i can do it right now.

Anyways took our coffees and headed for the drive and Bernd talked about the teams in waldorf thats working for TM and we had forty winks and by the time we woke poor Ram figured out the route inspite of loosing the track.

After going to the apostles by 5 ish we went to the helicopter ride right away and we were relieved that its open till 6. We had options to do a 7 seater ride where we had to wait for 2 more to come. But the 3 seater sounded better as we get to sit near the windows. This ride takes us around the 12 apostles and it was a 15 mins ride for $145. The change from the last time Ram has been there is the video. They give a tour video in USB for the passengers if we pay 45$ and it sounded good.

All for vain we got the tickets and had our lifejackets on too. And the bloddy flies were pretty annoying. Had to keep them driving away. It was starting to get a little foggy. We waited for what looked like a looongg 15 minutes

We saw the guys who did their heli ride and were quite excited to get into ours. and the bad news broke. Its too foggy and they cant take us in the air as its against the rules and he asked us to hope that the clouds clear away before  6 PM. Sad but a little hopeful we went to look at the apostles.

It was pretty scenic. The sea water cuts away the rock and after years they are cut-off from the land its connected to and there comes the apostles. There were 12 of them at some time in history and now its come down to 7 of them. All together its a picture-must spot and no wonder movie folks do come here for good shots.

After the clicks the sun started to rise again and we had hope that the pilots would run their helicopters for our fun ride.
Sadly it dint happen and we ended up getting refunded in cash.
Then we thought we could for some other views from different spots and there were London bridge and Loch and Gorge.

Loch and Gorge is a place where a group of people from ireland had a shipwreck in the same spot and only 2 survived. A lady Eva and a gentelman Tom. (Quite easy to remember ;) )
History says that there was a cave and the lady was nursed by Tom. Finally the localites saved them from the misery.

The view was quite fantastic view as well.

On our way back we stopped at a cafe bistro run by a french couple. Had margarita Pizza and talked a little about the human resources we might get in touch with in the near future from SAP, bootcamp trainings and stuff. At 8:30 we started back home and on the way in the car Bernd played some good songs from his son's playlist. I picked up that there's a musician called Peter Fox (sounds funny if you know Linfox) and Ylvi's What does fox say? (Watch the video . definatly funny)
PETER FOX
What does the FOX say???

What are the odds that i liked songs that have FOX in that. ??#Shrug#

Another not so FOxxyy song is
Oh Johnnyy

While coming back ram saw a koala bear sitting on the line diving the to and fro traffic and its eyes shined and he saw it for a split second. After going for 2 kms we came back and we got back and saw that it was still sitting there.

Bernd got down immediately and took some pics as his son loves koala (He calls the koala toy he has as Rob :D ). His 8 year old one actually asked him to get one and he had a neat covercup that it was fast and got onto the tree when he tried to catch it with this pic

I think its way way better to see a koala on the road this way than seeing it in the zoo.  And we slept a lot on our way and good music (cowboy music) and finally after a cosy night drive we came to city by 12:40.
It was a great trip all-together. With Bernd around and his expereinces, his stories, how he came to SAP and his past, how he met his wife and kids, his passion and interests, I can tottaly say that he's not someone i come across everyday.
That was a good experience that i have shared and the best part is i have stayed till 3:52 in the morning to get the pics uploaded and write up this blog.  I finally started it and hoping to bring up the old best moments i have had onto this blog .
