Statement of Purpose

I am Kanthi Vadlamani. I am 25 years old and I have a Masters in Computer Sciences from India. I took up sciences in my early age and chose Engineering. I have done my Bachelors of Engineering in Computer Science from an affiliated college of JNTU in Computer Sciences. I have always been a technical buff but I was introduced to the sweetness of English Language when I was young.

Now I am working in Melbourne as a Business Process Consultant in Transportation & Logistics industry for an elite customer.  I had no traditional training when it comes to usage of English Language and now I can understand from my experience in my day to day hustle that it’s a herculean task for me to communicate exactly what’s on my mind.

I see few English men who can express splendidly. They give twists and turns and make me wonder for a second what they are talking about and the very next second they come to the point where the idea is revealed and it leaves me awestruck. I always wonder how they do what they do and I figured that getting trained in a world class College like London School of Journalism is a start and I can make good use of this course.

In my opinion I don’t feel complete, as I can’t express my thoughts beautifully and in a well-constructed manner.

There is also another factor that drives me to take up this course on Journalism.  I always had a passion to stay on tab with the current affairs, where I first started off reading a newspaper. It started with the childish Cartoons , sports and the lifestyle sections of the Indian Newspapers like Times of India and The Hindu. One fine day I stumbled into the editorial section and after reading this one article by M J  Akbar on the Indian Society I was spell-bounded at the brilliance and intelligence and the spectacular way in which it’s presented.

Rod Laver Arena - A Truly memorable day

The factual report that I chose is a special performance and it’s the Tennis Grand Slam Australian open 2014 in Rod Laver Arena.

It was the 26th of Jan 2014 and it was Australian republic day and more importantly it was the Men’s final of the Grand slam of Asia Pacific “The Australian Open”. My friends and I took a ground pass into Rod laver for both men’s final. Stan Wawrinka from Switzerland won his maiden finals in a Grand slam. It wasn’t easy route to the finals for him. He defeated Djokovic in the Quarterfinals in an epic 5 set match lasting for 3 hrs. The other guy who bagged a place in the finals is Rafael Nadal after beating Rodger Federer in the Semi-finals. Considering the epic rivalry between the both, it was not as enticing as expected. Federer was way under expectation. But in the final it’s a whole new story. The first set was a tough fight but Stan’s backhand was significantly precise which stood as a clear win over Rafa. In Jim Courier’s opinion he reckons Stan’s backhand is the best he has ever seen in his career. And unfortunately at the end of second set Rafa was injured badly in the back and had to fight hard to succumb the pain. He took a time out to pop in some pills and he called for a physio too. It was a little amateur at that time that Stan had a discussion with the chair umpire asking about Rafa’s situation. The commentators even went out to say “Melodrama”. After that the medicines must have kicked in and Rafa won the third set. But at the end it was clear that Rafa was not Rafa and he gave a decent fight and not letting go till the end. Stan won his first Grand slam title ever in his ten year career.

Birbal the Clever

Story 1:

One morning, Akbar's grandson asks him to bend down as he points out there's something foreign on his face. He plucks out a black hair out of Akbar's mustache and laughs out loud for the prank he pulled on the King.  Amused, Akbar hugs his grandson and gets started to visit his durbar for the morning.

While walking to the durbar, he thinks of posing a tricky question to his courtiers to baffle them, Birbal included.

After sitting on his Royal throne, he explains the situation he had in the morning and asks what kind of a punishment should the culprit deserve?
                            OR
He asks what kind of a punishment should a person who pulled a hair out of his mustache deserve?

In response, all his ministers came up with various responses suggesting the person get flogged, imprisoned or hanged. Observing that Birbal is still quiet, Akbar asked him what according to him that person deserved? Hesitantly, Birbal denies to respond as he thinks its inappropriate to voice his thoughts in the court. Akbar insists Birbal to speak ut and he suggests that the person should be gifted with hundreds of kisses.
Surprised at the suggestion, Akbar smiling, ask Birbal to explain himself to the court. Birbal explains that the only person who can pull out a hair is a child & that implies its his grandson.

Once again Birbal's cleverness is exhibited to the courtiers
